Pub Visit - Germany

Sunday 28th November 2010

Mitte 1 BuildingBob Thompson

This pub is on one side of Alexanderplatz, the central square of the old East Berlin. It is outside the station of the same name and is close to the Fernsehturm, the colossal tower built by the previous regime. This was built to be seen all over the city, east and west, to show the populace what the go-ahead and modern country the DDR (East Germany) was. It didn't work though!

Mitte 2 BreweryOne side looks out over the railway line and there is an outside balcony. The rear is in a shopping centre.

It's owned by Lemke, who have two other brewpubs in the city. It opened in 1993 as Leopold's Brauhaus and acquired its current name in 2004.

Standard range is Pils, Dunkel (dark) and Hefeweizen (wheat beer) and there is always a seasonal special.

This one of four brewpubs situated not less than ten minutes walk from the station.
