Little Green Dragon 119th October 2025

Ian Rogers

There had been a Green dragon pub in Winchmore Hill since around 1720 until 2015, when the pub in its final location, was sold off, closed and converted to a Waitrose supermarket.

Richard Reeve who was a local resident went on a substantial tour of the UK visiting all micropubs that were in existence at that time and when a shop unit approximately 200 yards away from the last Green Dragon site, became available, he acquired it and the Little Green Dragon Ale House was born in 2017.

The pub stands out thanks to its pale green exterior, a delivery bike fastened to a lamp post, and several barrels and tables arranged on the pavement outside. Entry is by a central door, with tables set up either side of the central corridor. Immediately to the right, if it is a time when live music is on, that area will be in use by the musicians.

The beers and ciders are racked up in a room for gravity dispense behind the bar and payment is taken at the time of serving.

Usually there will be 4 Cask Ales, 4 Keg / KeyKeg beers and 4 ciders on, with the focus on local or Independent producers and always changing, there is no regular beer.

There is also an electronic Next Bus display to enable for maximum drinking time!

Several CAMRA awards have been won – Enfield & Barnet POTY (Pub of the Year) – 2018/2019/2020/2021/2022/2024. Greater London POTY – 2018/2024. In 2024 they were one of the final four CAMRA National POTY.

Music can be on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons, which can make the pub very crowded. In quieter periods many traditional games are available to play.

Card payment only. No food apart from crisps and bar snacks.
